a real dog uphill
man.. I just let my girlfriend drive my truck home from the airport and she told me my truck was bogging uphill (highway) and would'nt go over 60 (she was'nt punching it all way the either.. juts getting it to kick down once..) and I felt like a puss! she has a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 and the thing just cruises up hills..
is there anything I can do besides a superchip to give this truck some more get up and go? and I know the chip supposedly will give me up to 25 more hp, but the $$$ of gas is the only thing holdin me back, otherwise i would have called for one already =(
how bout JB headers? are they expensive and tought to install for your local Midas guy? is it worth doin?
btw... anyone with a chip and the same motor as mine, please reply and let me know what you think .. (V6 4.2)
thanks..

Hi patrickjp,
There are a number of 4.2 F-150 owners running the Superchip in the Computer Chips section, if you'd care to ask them over there.
Ther are other things you can do besides the Superchip. Instead of the K&N air filter, you can go with a complete airbox elimination kit, which will give you twice the power gain of the drop-in K&N air filter on the 4.2 V-6, though you can't re-use your existing K&N air filter.
You've already done the exhaust, so if you aren't going to do the Superchip, then it's time to look at other things like underdrive pulleys, converting over to electric cooling fans, etc.
Nobody is making headers just yet, but a couple of manufacturers are supposed to be releasing them in a few months, hopefully.
Good luck!

The chip makes a big difference in how the truck handles the hills with my SC auto. Stock, it didn't want to maintain speed at 70 or so on a gradual hill I drive everyday - it would kick down and then want to scream up to 80, or only pull 60 in overdrive.
But with the chip it holds in top gear easily at steady speed. I've done a few things to the truck and the chip is the best, especially if you have an automatic.
