3.8 Mustang Supercharger --- do you want to use it?
I've heard rumors of someone attempting to say the mustang supercharger can be used on the F-150 Truck.
I am only posting to allow the V6 4.2L F-150 Truck owners know some problems you might have when attempting to use another supercharger kit in your truck.
Pros:
- System is ready now
Cons:
- Adapting Required, IF it will work at all.
Why? ---
If you use the 99/00 kit you'd better be a GOOD mechanic. The 99/00 3.8 Mustangs have a returnless fuel line... Although I am not sure of the F-150 Truck at this time as we're still working on different details vs. install.
The 94/98 Kit is MADE for a 94/98 MUSTANG. Including mounting plate, injectors, fuel pump etc. Although the parts may be compatible they are NOT made for your truck.
You could be taking a serious risk not allowing someone to thoroughly test it, under stressful, towing, heavy, lite, hot and hold conditions. It is YOUR investment.
My question to you is, is it worth risking it? After all, now it is not very far away that our kits release is expected. Why would you want to possibly cause $1000's of damage to your truck for -- 2 months?.
Also, the increased price of installation...
If you are not mechanically inclined you will not be able to adapt a supercharger from another car. Installing a unit for your own car is difficult enough, many kits take well more than 6 hours. The First person to adapt a 94-98 Mustang Supercharger kit to the 99 Mustang took many many days, and more money to get it to work.
Just thought I would say, be careful. I am not in any way trying to sell my kit -- by all means, buy the mustang kit... but we are indeed spending money to test the kit we plan to release to ensure some degree of safety.
I am not saying "buy the kit we will be selling". I am saying "be careful". from one car/truck lover to another..

I have to somewhat disagree. I definitely agree with the fact that it is nowhere near a bolt on. If someone was going to retro a 3.8 blower on a 4.2, a 94-98 kit would the better choice. It it wasn't for the actual mounting bracket, it would basically go right on a 4.2 safely with slight intake plumbing difference. The 94-98 kit had a FMU, no chip, no new injectors, and the returnless fuel system problem would be out the window. I have one of the original blower kits that came out for 3.8 Mustangs, even before the Vortech kit. It was basically a BD-11 compressor with a custom bracket plus a FMU and fuel pump. It just took some creativeness to put it together. But I'm sure most guys here are looking for a straight bolt on kit, and I don't blame them. But if someone had the want-to and did the research, blowing up their truck would be unlikely.
But ulimately I applaud you for taking an intrest of developing a kit for these guys- it should sell well.

i am gonna have to agree with the previous poster on this one.It would be a relatively safe undertaking(these motors have nearly identical blocks, heads, upper and lower intakes. In fact some 94-98 3.8 mustang owners actually buy our parts(upper and lower intakes) and put them on because of their superior airflow design. It does take some mods but they do it(with great success).Talk to the folks at www.supersixmotorsports.com . I ruled it out because I just want one that is made to fit the 4.2.
Another minor sidenote is that ther a least a couple of 4.2s running around with superchargers custom mounted on them already.Mike Troyer(superchips dist.) in the computer forum actually helped tune one of them.
