Cool Taking down the competition.....

well here it is guys, the death of two chevys, i was at a light delivering pizza, second job, and two chevys pull up next to me, one was a dark red, maroon ext cab stepside with a 350 and the other was a shortbed reg cab i think with the v-6, but im not sure, well they were revving and the light turned green, i got a good start and we stayed even until i hit the upper revs, then i started to pull, shifted into second and pulled even more, then shifted to third and shut it down. the two guys in their chevys pulled up next to me when we were crusing still wanting some more so we let it fly at about 45 and i downshifted and STILL PULLED!! we got to the next light and they were both really impressed that a truck with a big dominoes sign on it beat thier trucks,
i just drove off like it wasnt a thing just giving a thumbs up

These "little v6" suprise a lot of poeple.
I have put a chip in opened up the intake box and put a little better brreathing muffler on mine and my brother drove it the other day he has a 4.6 in his came back and ask me how i liked my 5.4. suprised the hell out of him when iI popped the hood and showed him a little ol v6 stopmed his 4.6 bad. The chip is worht its weight in gold..
Seems like I dont have to dig so deep in the gas to get it up to speed. Last week took a trip to Ia from Tx and some how pulled down 22 there and 21 back loaded. But in the city only pulls around 15 or 16. DAVID98

Ok not to start any B.S but how do you know this truck had a 350 ??? , and the other had a v-6 ... you obviously didnt know them so ...what did you guess , I know i'm not exactly screaming "FORD RULES" , i own a 91 chevy c1500 extcab , 350 , auto, 3.08 rear , only mods are k&n and dual exaust . now i guess you wonder why i am here , well i just was looking around , and found the v6 forum , and decided to see what was up , well i didnt exspect to see stories of beating smallblock v-8s ( which still seam fishy ) considering , ive out ran my freinds 98 F150 swb regual cab - 4.6 , auto , 3.55 rear with limited slip. Ive driven a 99 f150 swb with the v6 , and it was prety good for a v-6 , but personaly it didnt have near the launch of my truck , just curious of how you guys were so sure you were racing v-8s .

For some reason i am still in doubt , i dont understand ????????? , out of all the trucks ive raced and beaten , it boggles my mind to think of an f150v-6 passing me, which in all reality it wouldnt , now maybe a heavily modified v6 with a manual tranny , but nothing short of that .

BY THE WAY ,in 97 motor trend tested a chevy c1500 , dodge 1500, and a ford f150 , all had v-6's , and the chevy was 1 second quicker to 60 , and 3 miles perhour faster in the quarter mile , yeah it takes a 350 , not.

mattmcdill,

No offense, but I don't think anything would sway your attitude that no Ford F-150 with a V6 would beat a chevy, especially a V8. But I think you seriously underestimate the power in our V6's. All I've got done to my truck is a performance exhaust and K&N, and can easily keep up with a chevy or dodge, and yes V8's, dodge does a good job of putting Magnum V8 emblems on their trucks and friends that have Chevy's let me know how my truck compares to theirs. All I'm saying don't underestimate the engine. by the way every article I read on the v6 engine offerings from the 3 different companies said the Ford V6 was the best of the bunch. I can't speak for superfreak's experiences but I know of my own experiences the V6 has got a powerful punch.

Ok guys fair is fair , ive never driven a modified 4.2, but i have driven stock ones , and unless you really pushed it it woudnt go , i am used to putting the gas down a quarter of the way and leaving people , i guess its all that v8 torque , but in the comparison test i talked about the 4.3 had the 4.2 outran . now ,i work for a truck rental company and the the small econoline vans have the 4.2's in them, and i will admit in these vans they are pretty peppy for a rental truck , but on the down side after 25,000 miles a majority of them have very badly leaking valve guide seals , and are using a quart more often than the tritons are , thats the only real down fall ive had with them , i am not really here to argue , really , i just dont see all this big power every one keeps going on and on about , honestly .

hey mattmcdill: not trying to start anything but you asked how he knew they were 350's.
myself i have raced 2 chevies. the first was a z71 that probably could have had a chance if the kid driving it knew how to launch the thing although it was a nice smoke show as i was pulling away. the second was my girlfriends truck which i know for a fact has a 350 with the same mods as i have which are few. k&n and exhaust. her's was harder to beat but still doable. should have never showed her how to drive that thing
these motors are very impressive once the revs climb up a little bit. hopefully they will last for quite awhile that is my only concern.

One thing to remember about these Ford 4.2 V-6's in the F-150's is their camshaft profile; they don't make much power below 2500 rpm, but after that, they pull pretty darn hard for a V-6 in a heavy truck, and that 4.2 does make it's rated power of 205 hp stock, which is respectable.

We've seen 4.2 V-6's that would stomp a 5.4 F-150, and we've seen V-6's that wouldn't fall out of a tree, and everything in between. Between all the potential weight difference in these F-150's based on body configuration and 2WD or 4WD, and the choices in transmission and gearing, it's no wonder why some of them are pretty darn quick, and then again some are, to put it bluntly, "dogs".

The service life of the 4.2 V-6 is also very good for the most part, there hasn't been an engine built by any automaker that doesn't have it's issues.

Is it possible for a 4.2 V-6 Ford F-150 to out-run a V-8 (305, 350, etc) Chevy/GMC 1500-series truck? You bet it is! It's also possible to see the exact opposite happen, there are many, many variables, and far too many to make blanket statements like a 4.2 V-6 F-150 couldn't ever beat any V-8 truck. It all gets down to the exact 2 vehicles involved, their power-to-weight ratio and the torque miltiplication available via transmission type & gear ratios, along with the skill level of the respective drivers, just about any kind of result is possible.

Our bests to all,

Cool

My friend has a Single cab Dodge with exhaust, and smaller rims/tires, and the "Magnum" V8. I have a STOCK 99 F150 Supercab V6. From a stop, he will lead for about 25 feet, then I fly by him. From a rolling start, he doesnt even have a chance.

hey whats up guys,,
i knew it was a 350 cause i asked the guy, and the v-6 had exhaust on it and didnt sound anything like a v-8 so, i just guessed, but if your wondering, ijust have a poormans airbox mod and a low flow muffler. i know how to drive standards pretty well, cant say excelent but pretty well since ive never driven an automatic. learned on a 3 on the tree with a 40 ft goose neck on the back so i guess you could say i know how to stick it...
my truck has the 3.05 or 3.08 rear end, which one is it?? so for down low, it really doesnt have anything but as soon as i get it going its gone
