Angry V6 life span

What is the life span of these ratty things?
My 97 bone stock had the first replacement at 23000 miles, now at 47000 it's getting the second replacement. It looks to me like about 23 0r 24000 is about what to expect.
I think I may be looking for something else before the warranty runs out on this one.

On your truck, was the engine replaced the first time due to the recall on the timing cover or was it something diffrent? The only V6 engine replacements I have gerd of was due to the recall. And being a fan of the V6 I must say I'm sorry to here that your having so much trouble with yours.

My 4.2 will click 97K this weekend. I had the timing chain gasket replaced twice. Once by a local mechanic before the recall. Then, it started leaking again. That time it was done Ford for free. 60K the first time and 80K the last time.

The first engine was replaced before I bought the truck, I can only speculate it was because of the timing cover.
This time it knocked the skirt off of a piston.
