Mass air vs. cold air
Can anybody tell me which is better? Mass air or cold air? I have taken my air box silencer off and could feel a difference of more air coming into the engine right away. My truck runs really well without the silencer. My question is.........What is better, less air that is cold? Or, More air that is just a little warmer? The Taxman

Max, did you make your new extention? What did you make it from? What are the measurements? Seems to me that a modified air box would be better than an Airaid if hot air isn't good for hp. The Air box acts as a heat shield for incoming air. With the silencer off, the engine takes in more air. But I believe that it does not take in any more hot air than it would with an open unprotected Airaid, if fact, it probaly takes in less hot air than the Airaid. Also, have you seen the Airaid installed on the 4.2? I have,And I can honestly say that Airaid did not take the time to make it look good. What an ugly piece. A K&N replacement filter and some modifications to your exsiting intake should work better than the Airaid.
Do you guys really want to get us started on this again? I still have a headache from the last thread about it.The k&n and the airraid do make their claimed horsepower under ideal conditions(read: on the dyno, with the hood open, letting all that hot air rise out from underneathe it) No one has dynoed the airbox mod you speak of ,but it does feed cool air to your motor. This is good.Crash1 uses this settup along with a 90 degree elbow after the filter to feed his air hungry supercharger. If it can feed a supercharger surely it can feed a normily aspirated engine with all the cool air it needs.Enough said.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
I would look for the least restriction, and still duct cool air in. I have found on MY 4.6l the expansion effect I get with the 4' tube seems to work well.
I have yet to go back to the stock setup, because I feel it will lack response and power. I will try to do it just for fun after I adapt to my new Superchip!
To be honest, I don't think the stock piece will stay long.
I was kickin' butt at the track with this air box mod, before the blower. 10.35 1/8 and 16.02 1/4, loose all the way through first.
Now, if I could just take it easy... roflmao!
I should have time for pics this weekend. Sorry for the delay.
