Talking Pulleys

Hey Ya'll
I have a question about power pulleys for the 4.2. I was wondering if anyone had insight if it is worth the purchase. Found a resonable deal on the pulleys at rpmoutlet.com.
Also do you have to change the serpentine belt? Someone told me that it has to be changed due to the pulley difference.I have installed the chip and airaid system and felt a noticable difference.
Thanks for all your help.

I put on the ASP underdrive crank pulley. It is only a crank pulley (for the 4.2L engine) so you do have to replace the belt. I can get the belt part number for you if you are interested. Was it worth it? They claim about a 10 HP gain. Probably too small to notice, but I'll take a free 10 HP! Also, the pulley is only for the '97-'98 engine.

gaudenti, I would appreciate the part number for the belt if it's not to much trouble. The pulley you have is the exact pulley I was looking at. Thanks for the feed back.

Question

I too am looking to add the pulley to my truck. How much does the belt go for? I heard that the pulleys can cause overheating. Would this be true even though the pulley set up for the 4.2 is a crank pulley only? Thanks for the info.

Question

this may sound dumb , but what is the diference between the 97-98 4.2 and the 99 4.2. i keep hearing that parts are made for the 97-98 engine , but isnt it the same thing? or are some things different?
thanks for any info.

The diffrence is the "harmonic balancer". In 99 ford started using a new balancer and pully that used only one single bolt to hold the unit on, whicn in 97-98 they used a bolt to hold the balancer on and four(I think) to hold the pully to the balancer. I have already emailed companies to find out about this and I was told that an underdrive kit would cost too much to produce and sell at a reasonable price. So it seems we are out of luck.

Yes old style was 4 bolts. As for the new
style, www.supersixmotorsports.com says
they might make some soon. I'd email them
and express your interest. The owner (Tom)
is currently surveying the interest in
this before he invests the time & money.
