Engine Temperature
Hi folks,
I did a reading of my engine temperature, It was 99 degrees Celcius which converts to about 206 degrees F. I've thought about putting in a new thermostat to drop the temp. they say a cooler engine profides more power. Any suggestions? Thanks

In a word, don't, for best power. The factory thermostat is set for 192-194 degrees, right where it should be, and you can go a little bit over that, all way up to 230 degrees before it's considered too hot.
When you run an engine on a dyno, you find that maximum horsepower is made at about 190 degrees or a few more of coolant temperature. If you look at even the Winston Cup NASCAR motors, they have them set up to run at about 200 degrees of coolant temperature for this very same reason, that is where maximum power is actually made.
If you want to drop your thermostat temperature, you could go down to 180 degrees, but NO LOWER, is our advice.
Good luck, whatever you decide!
