Angry Sleazy salesmen and bad service

I posted this on another board. If you have already read this message please disregard.

I hate sleazy sales men. No offense to you normal ones out there. Last wed I took my truck to ford.(97F150 4.2 3 door 25K miles) They agreed to service it under fords good "samaritan program" even though my warrantee was expired by 2 months. So far so good. While I was at ford I saw a nice truck for sale.(2000 F150 4x4 space cab with 10K miles) I told the sales man I wanted to trade in my truck for it. They appraised my truck and told me they would give me between 10-11k for it. A little low but not insulting yet. The sales man and I sat down to talk numbers. This pimp of a sales man comes back and quotes me a monthly payment higher then the asking price of their truck. And in addition expected me to give them my truck. It added up to about 40K. I looked at him and said, "do I have sucker written on my forehead or something. He pretended to look at his figures again and said, "Ill be right back. He returned with his next insulting offer. I added up his numbers on paper in front of him and pointed out they were offering me about 500 less for my truck then the had just quoted me. Eventually he said he would drop the price down to $24,800 for a 2000 F150 4x4 5.4 space cab with 10K on it. I got them to throw in the undercoat paint. I will sell my truck privately before I let this pimp rip me off. Monday they better offer me the same deal or... Or... Or something.
Today (sat) I picked up my truck from service. To their credit they did fix the engine. It was just a bad spark plug. First thing I would have checked. They also said they fixed the wipers and replaced the faulty switch. They didn't touch them. It was the same old dusty wiper switch. Wipers wouldn't turn off for almost a minute on the way home from the dealer. Even though they gave me a price break, I did pay $50 bucks for a spark plug. Took 4 days before they even touched my truck. Funny thing is they were unable to give me a receipt because they were fixing it under fords "good samaritan" program. Still haven't figured out what that means. Know one knew how to do it in the computer. I will be paying them a visit monday.

Angry

I have ran into my fair share of bad salesmen and uncaring service managers. I am having problems with my ABS light and they seem unable to find the problem, mind you I have a 99' Ford F-150 XL Sport with 20k on the odometer and I'm still under warrenty, they seem uncooperative and uncaring this is the last Ford I purchase I'm going to move onto Dodge

Cool

Just drove home my new 2000 F150 5.4 4x4 extra cab. Love the power. Haven't had a V8 in years. I got it for $24,700 with 10k on the odometer. Will start adding on to it soon. First a k&n filter. Thanks for your comments.

hello....
I used to work for a Ford dealer in the service dept. I just wanted to tell you about that "Good Samaritan" help they provided for you. It is called an AWA (after warranty adjustment). If you fall into the guidelines they MAY cover an item even though it is out of base warranty. It is up to the service manager and their regional warranty rep. to apply this help to your vehicle. One of the stipulations is that you are the original owner and have previous problems with the present concern. As for your $50.00 spark plug, that was probably a deductible for their "help", because on an "AWA" the total cost is divided into 3 parts---Ford pays 50% and the remaining 50% is divided between the service department and the customer. Apparently the only reason they did not give a receipt was beacuse they did not explain this to you. But you will have a warranty on that part through the servicing dealer and you will need that receipt for the records in case you ever have a problem in the next 12 months or 12K miles (whichever comes first).

Another interesting piece of info that falls into the sales category, is that even if you DO NOT purchase an extended warranty at the time of sale, you CAN go back to the purchasing dealer and buy it before the base warranty runs out. The best time would be at least 2 months before expiration and/or around 33k miles. The plus to this is, the puchase price of the extended warranty may be less than what they quoted you at the time of purchase, and it won't be financed in your deal. BUT, you may have to undergo a "Used Vehicle Inspection" to verify that there aren't any MAJOR problems with the vehicle. And that cost depends on how much the dealer charges for the inspection (average cost is 1-2 hour check out time). I hope this can be of use for some of you out there.

Ford has started a new program similar to the Chrysler's 5 Star Program. I would talk to the General Sales Manager and let him know that you are just as serious as a 30 year old. I cannot believe that they didn't want to sell to you.....guess they didn't need your money.

Headless Horseman,
I might have the problemn with the ABS light answered!

My truck did the same thing when new, Was fine till I let the wife drive ( once). sure enough after that it would come on AFTER STARTING. Well turns out it was just Not going off after the dash "Lights up" when starting. The Ign Switch just needed a slight counter clockwise turn (by hand) Dealer had it for 3 days couldn't figure it out. I sat in it played with switch and figured out the plastic was just a catching a little.

Hey Regulator,
I might try that tonight! That sounds like a good idea. cause I've tried everything else... If this doesn't work I'm going to pull the bulb from the socket on the ABS light.

Okay Folks!
Here is what you do if you can't get your problem fixed by those sleazy mechanics ford has. You call the Ford Consumer Hotline and you tell them your problem, and I am for sure they can help you fix the problem. IT WORKED FOR ME!!!
