Thumbs down Engine Question Duhh

97 4.2 5spd. I go up a hill usually in 3rd gear and the truck jolts. I give it more gas and most of the time it stops. What is up? Why is it jolting? I have good rpm's and when it jolts the needle doesnt move. I give it a good 2000 to 25000 maybe even 3000 still jolts.

Hey Waldo,
I had a very similar problem w/ my 4.2L auto. As silly as it might sound, my fix was just changing the tranny fluid, filter & gasket. I havent had any troubles w/ my engine. I dont know if you have or not. But you might want to check it out. Hope this helps!

Thumbs up

Hey thanks. After 58,000 miles I suppose it is time for me to change the fluid.

Thanks again,

i have been a very bad owner...after 72,600 miles i'm just now getting to the first tranny fluid/filter change. shifts are smoother after all these miles but the delayed engagement into drive is annoying. will be doing the fluid change next week.

Alright, this deserves a Duhh waldo has a 5spd. waldo, my advice would be to push up your plans for plugs and wires, several people with similarly equiped trucks have had this problem and have had it solved with a set of plugs and wires. I have the same problem every now and then, and someday I too will swap in some fresh plugs and wires for my rig
