Question New engine "break-in"?

Hello all,

I recenlty purchased my first F150 (yesterday!).

I remember when I bought my first new car (Honda civic) a few years ago there was a break in period and driving suggestions for about the first 500 miles.

I was wondering if there is such a requiremet on this V6?

I didn't notice any mention of it during my first pass-thru of the owners documents. (Naturally I'm being gentle on it and allowing a minute or two of warm-up before driving.)

Any other suggestions on getting off to a good start with this "virgin".

Thanks in advance!

Cool

Driver: Don't lug the engine, don't hang high revs, change the oil & filter @ first 1000 miles. (gets rid of the manufacturing debris) Have fun, drive safe, enjoy this board. IMHO....jb

Wink

Well, I also asked that question when I got my truck this year, here's what I found out:

- Drive like a granny for a while, with occasional "slight" revs every now and then (just not full throttle starts)
- You will notice a HUGE difference in the engine when you reach about 4000 miles...it really starts to loosen up and I have already increased 1-2mpg and feel more hp/torque when I drive (4800miles now)
- Some people say change your oil at 1000miles, but I have heard not to worry about that because they have much better engine manufacturing techniques nowadays so that you should not have any particles/shavings in there (besides thats what the filter is for) - infact, I have heard that some engine manufacturers actually put special oil in from the factory to help break in and if you change it out too soon you could be doing more harm than good! So I just went at 3000miles just like the books say
- synthetic or not??? I did switch to Mobile 1 synth. at 3000 miles with a motorcraft filter, and some people actually recommend waiting until 10k miles before going to synth. (too smooth???) Anyway I think you can't go wrong with the synthetic and yes it costs a little extra but if you plan on keeping the truck for a while its a good idea and it makes me feel better which counts for a lot...

just one mans opinions of course
