Hi, I'm new to this board. I work both in the U.S. and Philippines for Ford Motors. The V6 motor is not that much less powerful than the 4.6L V8, and unless your towing something really heavy, you don't notice that much. As compared to the 5.4L, well thats different (but the 5.4 has its own problems).
We tested V6 5-Speeds w/ 3.55 Combos vs. 4.6 V8 automatics w/ 3.55 Combos, and more often than not, the V6 5-Speed Combos were about a car length ahead up to 80 MPH. I tow a 98' Mustang Cobra w/ trailer & parts to the drag races in the Philippines so I have a 5.4L, but I would have the V6 5-speed for a daily driver/moderate tower & hauler.

It should be noted that all F150's in the Philippines are U.S. spec, so this should apply to your trucks as well.

I am goimg to have to agree with waldo on this I had a 98 with the v-6, 5 speed and the 3.55 rear end.I really had trouble keeping the rear tires stuck to the pavement when I was racing. I did beat a 99 f150 extra cab 4X4 with the 5.4 and a auto transmission. It was close but, I won.also pretty much tied a 93 camero rs with the v-8(350?) and an auto. The two wheel drive with the 5 speed and the 3.55 is a pretty quick truck. My current truck(2000 f150 4x4 with the 4.2,5spd.3.55 isn't going to be winning any races though.the same extra cab 4x4 whipped me. I can't even squeel the tires off a dead standstill. It will let out a little chirp into 2nd if I drop the clutch at about 3000 rpm.My next truck is gonna be a superduty.

You sure did waste a lot of time going around finding all my old messages, Kilroy. Some of those old messages are probably going on nearly two years old by now... Don't you have anything better to do? This has nothing to do with my credit; I have more of that than I could ever wish for--just like many folks in America. The difference is, I don't allow myself to rack up big consumer debt.

My story is just as I said... I wanted a truck that suited my needs better than the '98 4.2. I bought that truck because the '98 Ranger I had was literally falling apart, and I had neither the time nor the means to take Ford to court over it. I took the Ranger all over the place (literally all over the southeast) for tranny repairs, but no dealer could fix it. I was in the middle of extremely busy classes in Mississippi as a newly commissioned Air Force officer and was also taking care of family things in another state and preparing to move across the country to my new assignment. I did a partial do-it-yourself move with that truck--pulling a heavy trailer--and my Ranger would have died enroute of massive defective tranny failure--so yes I traded and took a big loss to get a truck that would handle the load. Maybe not the smartest thing to have done, but my options were rather limited and my time was rather short.

As for why the changeover to an older truck... I really don't want to explain the details to someone who is obviously trying to be a troublemaker, and I certainly don't have to (why what I do really is so interesting to you, I have no idea) but in short my needs changed. The reg. cab 4.2 was no longer meeting my needs, I owed more on it than I felt reasonable for a basic truck, and I decided I wanted to be out of debt. Sorry for being too fiscally conservative for you. But it sure will be nice to pay cash for my SuperDuty in a few years rather than making the bank some money by going into consumer debt.

My "new" '91 F-150 will soon be paid for, and I just completed a cross-country haul with no problems before coming overseas for my remote tour in Korea.

Well, it's been a pleasure. Unlike some folks on this board, I have a job to do...

-Mike
