4.2v6 towing
I own a 99 f150 4.2v6 automatic w/overdrive.
What can I do to enhance it's towing capabilities? I would like to hear from the superchip guy as well as any other suggestions. I would also like to know what would be the maximum weight I could safely pull. thanks

mikevondy,
Two questions, which axle ratio do you have, and how much to you plan to pull.
If you have the 3.55 axle you should be able to pull 3500# or more almost anywhere. Personnaly I pull a 3000# boat, and have no problems getting upto speed or maintaining speed. The Superchip does give a noticable difference, the engine seems to have an easier time handling the load with the chip in.

I have pulled 5,300 pounds from Colorado to Louisiana with no problems except for long grades. The altitude didn't help either but when you get out of the clouds it pulls just fine.

I have a 1997 F150 4.2L V6 auto trans and 109150 Miles. I assume I have the standrad set of gears that Ford Engineering design for this truck. I pull a 18" trailer with a tractor with a front end loader all over east TEXAS with no problems as long as I keep the OD turned off.I also drive this truck to work every day 150.Miles round trip.I will tell anyone if you do your maintenance like you should your truck should be able to do anything you ask of it with in reason of corse.
