Question which chip should i go with?

Hey , Im thinking about putting a chip in my truck , but I dont know which one is best. What ones would you recomend? Do these chips void your warrenty? I dont think they do , but I want to be sure. And for the people that have a chip already , what kind did you get , how much did it increase the HP/torque , and how do you like it?

Researched it before I decided on Superchip. Works great - more power, better shifting. Check the computer chips section for lots of info or call the Superchips guy (Mike T.) directly. He is a pleasure to deal with and very informative. It has a return policy, so no risk.

I explored this topic extensively before I decided to go with the Superchip that Mike Troyer sells (who is also more than willing to answer any question you have, for *free*):

You can expect an increase of about +25 HP and 31 ft-lb of torque for the 4.2L V6. I am more than pleased with the Superchip in my F-150!!!!

Check out their web site ----> https://www.f150online.com/scpp/index.html

HI 99silversport,

You might want to check out the Computer Chips section here on F-150 Online, there are a lot of people with direct hands-on experinece with the Superchip. It's the only one that improves power *all* the time while not requiring the owner to make other modifications to their vehicle, and makes more power than any other chip for these vehicles.

If you'd like to get specific details, etc., please feel free to give us a call, we're happy to go over all of this with you, so you can give it some thought, and decide which way you want to go.

To answer your question about warranty, no, the Superchip does not void your warranty. In fact, there is specific legislation that protects you in the use of aftermarket performance parts, and it's called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. It has many provisions, but basically it states that a warranty claim can only be denied if the aftermarket parts can be proved to have actually caused the damage, among other things, so you are well-protected by law on this.

One of the other things the Superchip does is improve the gas mileage a bit on these heavy vehicles, when you're not using heavy throttle. Most V-6 owners are reporting back with 1.0 to as much as 2.0 more mpg, but on average the gain usually runs 1.0 - 1.5 on the 4.2 V-6. Your results will depend on your operating conditions and how you drive, just like before the Superchip, of course.

Best of luck with your truck,

I recently installed the Superchip in my truck. I too did a lot of research. Even to the point of posting a "Superchips Problems" thread. What I discovered was:
1) The Jet chip often requires a new thermostat. Also only works at Wide Open Throttle.
2) The Hypertech seemed to reprogram your computer and you can't easily go back to the original programming.
3) Mike Troyer's Superchip is praised over and over again throughout this website. Also, you can pull the chip and the truck computer reverts to its original programming. Also there is an excellent series of "how to" to install the chip.
4) I never read any Jet or Hypertech distributors at this website promoting their product.

The HYPERTECH "chip" is a plug in just like the SUPERCHIP and when it is pulled off the computer goes right back to normal. You might be thinking of the Power Programmer that they also sell which changes your trucks computer settings without a plug-in chip. If someone was to go with HYPERTECH's equivellant of the SUPERCHIP they should not expect not to be able to easily go back to the original programming.

LowBlo - I sit corrected. So why did you choose a Hypertech over a Superchip?
