Question V6 to Lightning

How hard would it me to convert my 5sp V-6 to a Lightning, performance wise. (engine, blower, suspension, etc).

If it is even possible, it would cost much more than just selling your truck and buying a Lightning. I'm sure you can make your truck handle and run much better than stock. But getting it to perform like a Lightning? That is a HUGE gap to bridge.

For huge amounts of money you could maybe get it to perform as well as a Generation 1 Lightning (non-blown 351), which is 1/4 miles in the high 15's. But the Gen II Lightning is MUCH faster (high 13's). If you could match the performance numbers, your V6 truck would a race special and virtually undriveable on the street and useless as a daily driver.

The new Lightning is a marvel and you would be hard pressed to match the pros at SVT, especially with a V6 handicap. Can't turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.

HEHEHE....
Sows Ear....Silk Purse.....heheh

lmao

that hurts....hee

I would venture to say it would be easier to find a wrecked lightning somewhere and rebuild it than to convert. Parts carry a HUGE markup...

There is no humanly possible way. Unless you plan on swaping engines with a 5.4 and adding a supercharger and swapping the wheels and the front bumper and adding power pullies not to mention the suspension. It would save you a lot of money time and effort if you just went out and bought one. bumper alone is a somewhere in th 2k ballpark and the wheels themselves are are an arm and a leg without the tires. Quit dreaming you are only setting yourself up for dissapointment.

Here's some of what is possible with a v6 if you've got lots of money. As in tens of thousands of dollars. :-)

The Lola v6:

Engine:

Cylinder: V6

Cubic capacity: 4,2 l

Power: 425 hp at 7200 revs/min.

I really can't tell you what the name of the shop is, but The guys name is Gary. He is in G.P. Or Grand Parie to anyone tht is not in N. Texas. He told me for about 7,000.00 he could install a dual turbo on a 4.2L V6 that would out perform the Lightning. He told me that he had done it before on a 4.2L. He did not give a HP # and I do not know if he was telling the truth or not. My brother found this guy and I have his # somewhere around my place. When I find it I will post it here for you. But until then maybe you would want to check out some of the performance shops in G.P. or call them.

I don't even think that turbo kit exists or is even recomended for the V6. It all comes down to the amount of mods you can do and stay street legal. Don't forget these things still have to pass emissions test in Dallas County.
