V6..MY HOME...doing 105MPH WITH A V6
At last a home for V6 owners...i change my exhaust to a powerflow type that gives off a rumble...stock tires 235/7016...KN filter..i was able to beat a 4.6 4x4 on a long strech of highway...i was able to reach 105mph by deactivating or turning off my overdrive ..with the overdrive on it takes a long time to reach 95 and then the speed limiter kicks in...i have a 4.2 v6 auto tranny with 3.31 gears and stock tires 235/16's...supercab 4X2 1999 model
So your saying if you turned off the over drive you could by pass the speed limiter the only way I know of to bypass it is with a chip.

That is also what I thought..you need the computer program inside of the Superchip (or some other brand
) to bypass the fuel limiter.

my 4.2L w/ 3.55 gears & auto, can hit 100mph pretty easily if i keep it floored, but if i stay at 80 or 90 for a little while then its slow to go faster. and with overdrive off the rpms run higher, just going 65 is almost 3000 rpms. doesn't turning OD off only give you 3 gears? I would think the truck would refuse to go too much faster b/c the rpms are so high and won't come down. the 4.2L gets its biggest burst of speed after a shift and the rpms go down - atleast that is how mines working.
i always keep my overdrive off whenever i want my truck to go past 95mph ..since we dont have speed limit here in the philippines...i have a done it quite a bit...i also turn off my aircond whenever i go past 90mph...yes by keeping your overdrive in the off position, your gears only go thru 3 speeds..
Sorry to disappoint, but every computer controlled Ford F-150 (and most other computer-controlled vehicles as well, excepting only hi-perf. models) does in fact have a top speed limiter. The Fords shipped to the Philippines are US-spec vehicles, and have the exact same top speed limiters, there is no difference.
You *cannot* defeat any top speed limiter by locking out Overdrive, that is absolute myth and hogwash. The top speed limiter works in *every* gear that will allow the vehicle to reach those speeds, so it doesn't matter whether you have it in Overdrive or not.
You posted this same thing months ago over in the Computer Chips section Danny, and I told you back then that this won't work; you *still* cannot defeat a top speed limiter by locking out Overdrive, and that is not going to change on your vehicle.
The only time you can get a higher speed by locking out Overdrive is:
1.) You are still under the top speed limiter.
2.) Your vehicle simply ran out of horsepower in Overdrive, and would not pull any more rpms due to total engine load, primarily from aerodynamic drag. It has nothing to do with the top speed limiter whatsoever. Then by downshifting back into 3rd gear (Overdrive is simply 4th gear), the engine can get closer to the rpm at which peak horsepower occurs, and so it will pull more speed in that lower gear as a consequence in some vehicles.
Just to reiterate, it is not possible to defeat, or even to increase, a top speed limiter by taking it out of Overdrive. Period. End of story. Plus tax. Raoul?

ABOUT MY TRUCK DOING 105MPH...i have done this about 50 times already ...i even removed the jet module to see if it still reaches 100MPH and it still does!!! i am even willing to bet 10,000 dollars to the person who would want to chanllenge me on this...i live in the philippines and i am willing to take a person for a ride on my truck just to prove my point...
Dear Danny,
Easy there, big guy!
I do not doubt that you've seen speeds over 100 mph, that is possible with some of the stock trucks. The top speed limiters are set for anywhere between 98 and 108 mph, depending on which wheel & tire set your vehicle came from the factory with.
The reason you're seeing more speed out of Overdrive has *nothing* to do with the top speed limiter, Danny. What has happened is just as I explained above in my first post. Your truck simply does not have enough horsepower to attain those speeds in Overdrive, because the rpm's are too far below the horsepower peak, and it's horsepower that gives top speed. When you downshift into 3rd gear (Overdrive is simply 4th gear), your can run faster simply because the engine is now closer to it's horsepower peak, turning higher rpms, so it can attain more speed in 3rd gear than it can in 4th. See my point?
It is *not* because turning Overdrive off defeats the top speed limiter, Ford isn't that stupid. No automaker is going to implement a top speed limiter that only works in Overdrive, that defeats the entire purpose of a top speed limiter, and they're much smarter than that. The top speed limiter works in any gear that is capable of allowing the vehicle to attain that kind of speed.
I just wanted to make it clear to you that we here at Performance don't doubt that you've been able to attain those speeds. We just want you to know exactly *why* that is happening, so you won't have the wrong impression, and have other people here think the same thing as a result.
We wish you all the best, Danny.
