Computer chips
Does anyone have any info on computer chips? I would not mind buying one as long as I don't have to use super unleaded. Is the performance gain as good as I have read? Will my truck really come to life?

Yes the truck will come alive but watch out it might bite. lol Yes you do have to use the 92 octane or better or the chip will not work in the proper manner. You can get a flip chip to run two programs one that runs 92 octane the other to run basically stock with 87 octane.

The chip has to run on 92 octane or higher because the computer is reprogramed to utilize the higher octane. Belive me it is the best mod for the v6 on the market. I put it in about 3 weeks ago and my truck turned into a beast especially in 2nd and 3rd gears for some weird reason. Check out the computer chip fourm and Mike Toyer will answer all the questions you have about the superchip.

Dear Mdell2,
Welcome to F150online!
The Superchip for the 4.2 V-6 adds 25 horsepower and 31 lbs./ft. of torque. So it works equally well whether you have a V-6 or a V-8, or even a 4 cylinder engine, they all respond with the same percentage gains in power from this tuning.
All performance chips require the use of premium gasoline, that is how the power gain is achieved, so there isn't any getting around that. However, we do have a product that a lot of guys are ordering lately, called the Flip Chip, as was mentioned by another poster. The Flip Chip can contain any 2 programs, and we can configure it for you with one program for regular gasoline, along with all our other modifications, and then the second program would be our normal performance program for premium gasoline. The regular gas program will not get you any real power gain, but the vehicle will still accelerate a bit quicker thanks to the fact that we remove all of the transitional spark retards that reduce engine power.
The place to get information about computer chips here on F150online is in that section, appropriately named the "Computer Chips" section. It's just below the V-6 section, down in the Aftermarket category. Also, each individual section will be the best area to get information on a particular area, IE, if you want info about exhausts, go to the Exhaust section, for info on computer chips go to the Computer Chips section, and so on, that's the idea of having those specific sections, and that is where that information is readily available to you to find quickly and easily, just a suggestion.
Please feel free to give us a call, and we'll be happy to go over all the details with you.

Thanks for the info. I don't care for super unleaded $$$$ but i'm going to consider it. Is it safe to purchase a used chip? Will it work the same? Where do I find the proper code for a 2000 4.2 5-speed.

Mdell2,
You can order a new chip from Mike..or look in the classifieds for a used chip. I bought mine there and it works great! A guy I work with also bought a used one and it also is just fine.
Remember, if the Superchip was purchased originally from Superchips (with an 's')..it has a lifetime warranty.
The computer code is located in the door frame on the passenger side, between the door hinges. It is a white and black sticker with a 4 digit code (mine was ATC2).
Either way...you can't go wrong. I waited a long while before ordering mine...and then I decided to get it. It has been WELL worth the money!!

Here is a dyno sheet comparing my before and after horsepower/torque with a Superchips...
I gained 11 hp and 13 ft-lb of torque plus the shifts are firmed up. I run 93 octane fuel and still get tip-in spark knock occassionally, especially with winter-grade gas. All in all, I am very satisfied with my Superchips.

Dear Dustoff,
One thing to keep in mind is that the Superchip's Lifetime warranty is *only* to the original owner.
As a courtesy, if a particular Superchip came from us here at Performance Products, then we will continue that warranty coverage to the next owner (except custom Flip Chips), but this cannot be expected from the manufacturer.
That being said, if someone can locate a used Superchip that matches their vehicles computer code, it can be a great bargain, and we encourage their use!

Dear Mdell2,
To locate your vehicles computer code, just open your passenger door, and look in the front part of the door frame, in between the door hinges. There will be a sticker there, with 3 letters and a number on it, and that is your computer code.
Let me know if you have any trouble locating it,
