06 starting problems...

Lately when I start my truck it turns longer than usual and then tries to start stumbles a few times when I release the key and dies. The second turn usually starts it but it doesn't start as strong as it used to. When it does start it creeps up from really low rpms initially then runs fine. Also when does die on startup it shakes hard a time or two like it's trying really hard to run. I've had every theory from injector to fuel pump to weak battery. What do you think?

71,000 miles, I don't have a programmer so I don't know if it's throwing any codes.

Tonight when I started it up, the first try it cranked twice then made a scrape sound like the starter does when cranked with the engine running. Second try started right up. Other times it cranks, goes chug chug chug slowly then dies. Second try it always cranks up.

I did the GOTTS mod last year could it be related?

I doubt it, but you are getting near the time to change the spark plugs. Have you ever changed the fuel filter? That should be done about every 30k.

Fuel Filter was new in January less than 6,000 on it. Spark Plugs never changed, I'll look into that, what do you recommend? Motorcraft or Autolites?

Motorcrafts.

They are simple to change on this engine.

This morning it did something a little different. First try it just went "turn turn scrape". I stopped waited a few seconds, tried again and it started right up. I'm baffled now it always has some sort of hang up first try but always starts fine second try.

my 06 just hit 72000 and I have been having similar, but not quite as drastic problems... i'm going to dig up the thread I started a while back... my engine still fires on the first attempt, i have only had it once where it didn't fire up on the first turn.
