'98 to '01 4.2L Knock Sensor Swap

I'm in the process of swapping in a '01 4.2L to replace the tired '98 4.2L. I've come across a problem with the knock sensor, which in the '98 is on the lower passenger side of the block next to a freeze plug. The '01 has a bolt-thru type on the head. Can I just wire in the '01 knock sensor to my '98 wiring harness and leave it in the head?

Thanks!

Karl

I recently did a 99 to 2000 engine swap in my truck. On your new engine there is just a plug in place where the old style knock sensor should be, just remove it and put your old knock sensor in its place. With the engine in the truck it is a little bit of a pain but it wasnt that hard. Just to be careful I put semi hardening gasket material on the threads when i installed it on the new block. It will require a bigger torx or allen socket...cant remember.
