Gotts Mod Valve Question

I'm considering doing the Gotts mod but I've read that on 3 valve engines it can cause it to run lean. I have no idea if my truck is a 2 valve or 3 valve, can someone clarify? I've also heard that it should not be done on any 04+ engine but since most people prefer a v8 I wonder if this also applies to the 04+ v6.

My truck is a 2006 F150 STX 4.2 V6

Additionally if anyone has any experience with this mod I'd like to hear about it, I've read about everything I can find about it but would always like to hear more especially as it pertains to the v6!

Thanks!

How the FAQ can you own a truck and not know what engine is in it ???

You'll be fine. all V6's are 2V - you have a MAF in a venturi - so should be safe. Never hurts to measure it though - to be sure. Most don't, so don't really know... more of a SWAG,.. I guess.

For 3V's (especially 04's, 05's ) some of those had pre-existing lean tendencies in the factory tuning, so sometimes modding the intake in any way could potentially exacerbate the issue to the point of running leaner than optimum, or even safe, in extreme cases.

This is, largely, more of a 'feel good' mod, as it promotes the belief that you 'shafted' the big-name aftermarket intake manufacturers with a very low cost, home-made alternative. Benefits are small, but measurable. It's NOT gonna turn yer truck into a top-fool dragster...

Don't expect miracles - I'd be surprised if you noticed anything at all ... but, as I've noted several times before, placebos are a powerful thing

I did the gotts mod on my 07 4.2, and I enjoyed it. My truck seemed to get alittle better gas mileage. It was not a huge gain but it was a gain and I enjoy doing stuff to my truck. If you expecting a big gain you will be disappointed. I think it was worth it for the fun factor at least.

i just did the gotts mod last night. i have an 03' 4.2 V6 and must say that i can definatly feel a significant improvement in my trucks acceleration and responsiveness. I put a K&n in before i did the mod(along with switching to full synth from conv. oil) and felt a noticeable improvement even then. but after the mod, even more improvement. my engine runs smoother at idle and at highway speeds. plus it gives your truck a beefier sound. i actually found that while testing it for the first time, i had to get used to the extra power for the first few blocks. This is my experience anyway. one thing that i did notice when observing the way the pieces go together was that the entrance of the filter housing when inside of the pipe coupling was a lot smaller still. (about 2.75 inches in diameter. ) Plus a potential for serious air turbulence. so i actually cut up my filter housing to accept another piece of 3" pvc then coupled it all together. (not suggesting you do this. its just what I did.) so now i have 3" diamter from fender well to beyond MAF. theres probably better ways to do it, but then again im not any type of mech. engineer. i still have some little things to smooth out on it, but it is definately worth doing the mod since it runs about 12 bucks for pieces from Home depot. JUST DO IT DUDE!!
