1989 3.0 block interchange with a 1999 3.0 block?

will a 1989 3.0 block interchange with a 1999 3.0 block?

my dad has a rod knocking in his 1999 ranger 268,xxx very very hard abusive miles

he's got a remanufactured block for a 1989 aerostar van and he's wondering if the 1989 block will bolt up to the 1999 accessories and heads, etc...

I've searched online and have found no answers, any body here have an answer for me??

if he's got to build a new motor the ranger will get a carb'd 289

my one buddy put a taurus 3.0 in his ranger when his ranger's blew up. dont know year of either vehicle tho. his ranger is the 98 style tho so whats that...til 01? i think his is maybe a 99. he had to remove or relocate a few things but it bolted up the tranny. i havent seen or talked to him in almost a year tho so i dont know how long it worked. he went mudding with it a bunch of times afterwards tho.

we'll find out,

like I said he's planning on just using the block and swapping everything from the ranger over and if it don't work he'll go with the 289 and probably increase his mileage

if i were him id try the 289 as long as it isnt gonna cost a ton. when i had my 2.8L 89 firebird, i burned an exhaust valve in it. i was told it would need rebuilt. well my options were to get the 2.8L rebuilt and buy a performance camshaft for it for $75 extra or get the engine my dad gave me. a 283 out of a 64 impala. was apart but complete except one piston. it had been sitting in the garage for about 15 years. but i ended up trading in my firebird for my trans am. so less headache for me. until i wrecked the t/a 6 months later

The 289 will require a lot of modification. Motor mounts, radiator, different transmission and mounts, drive shaft. I have never gotten great mileage out of a carbed 289. Maybe because most of the time it was a Holley double pumper. LOL

thats the other reason the 283 didnt get rebuilt for my firebird. i would have needed all that stuff too probably. i know tranny wouldnt bolt up. but the around 260hp in the 283, according to my dad's 66 caprice owners manual, would have been a lot nicer than the 135hp out of the 2.8L. altho the performance cam supposedly made the 2.8L be able to keep up with the 5.0L firebirds. that was according to the website tho.

once upon a time I was gathering parts to swap the 4.0 in my old ranger to a sbf so he's got just about everything he's gonna need

they ended up buying a toyota crew cab first foriegn POS they've bought and it gets worse mileage empty then the ranger did with a 22ft trailer
