rear differential.

I bought my 98 f150 a short while ago, and recently (due to mechanical problems) realized that the original differential isn't in the truck. I know that i need an 8.8 3.55 diff for the truck, but i don't have the tag number that every parts shop in town seems to need. as there is no tag on the diff, how would i go about finding this?

Go to a junkyard and buy a whole rear end.

Those lines look like they should be replaced anyway.
