ok my brother just bought a 97 4.2 reg cab short bed . The problem is the exhaust ends after the y pipe just cats no mufflr. I run that on my 07 5.4 and it sounds nice ,but it sounds like butt on his 6. so can any body recomend a decent muffler for it ? i allready welded up some pipe i had around just to get it to exit out the side any and all help is appreciated . Thanks in advance guys!

 

I would recommend Magnaflow. I have their 18" 5x9 oval on my 4.2, and it has a decent amount of grunt to it for a v6.

Rule of thumb I go by if the less pipe you have, the louder and raspier it will sound. The more piping you have, the deeper and mellow it will sound.

In my signature I have a few exhaust clips. Click "Magnaflow Idle/Takeoff" or "WOT @ 55 MPH" to listen to them.

 

The Cherry Bomb Vortex has a nice sound. But it does get a tad raspy at the top end but its a 6, there's no way around that. Mine sounds great.
