engine knock!!!

Thumbs down engine knock!!!

So Friday morning I'm driving to work and I hear a knock when i accelerate. So I get pissed. Anyway. I'm thinking it's a cylinder misfire or I need to replace the spark plugs and wire. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Try premium gas, if it goes away, it's time for a tuneup and an intake cleaning.

I got codes pulled and Engine bank 1 and 2 are lean. There is a misfire on startup in the first 1000 revolutions and cylinder 3 is misfiring. I just called a shop, and he said it needs a tune up. ANd that he will replace the plugs and wires since they are the factory motorcraft

If both banks are lean, the FIRST thing to look for is a vacuum leak.

I would highly recommend that you replace the plugs and wires with OEM Motorcraft. Aftermarkets are a crapshoot with these engines. There is also a possibility you may need a new coil pack - but you won't know till you get new plugs and wires in there. If you have more than about 80k on the original plugs and wires, it's time for replacement. Mine went 84k before I developed a miss - diagnostics said that the plugs and wires were pretty shot. It ran a lot better, but it still had an intermittent miss, a coil pack took care of that.

well I put it in the shop a few weeks ago. They replaced all the plugs and wires, fuel filter, coil pack. Pretty much a $400 tune up. Well, the other day my engine light comes on again and pulls the same codes, and today I heard it knock again. Should I complain and try to get the shop to fix it for free? It only has 65,000 miles.

You got what you paid for, now it's time to do what you should have done in the first place. You would have needed that $400 tuneup pretty soon no matter what. You got a decent deal - it cost me $570 to get the same tuneup without a fuel filter but I had to pay a diagnostic fee and I got a BG intake cleaning.
