Which lower intake manifold gasket to use?
Which lower intake manifold gasket to use?
I am now putting my 2nd engine into my F150. On my first attempt, I guess I sucked at putting the engine back together because 3 years ago I put a new engine in my F150 but it leaked coolant into the block and destroyed the lower bearings after only 40K miles.
Since getting the lower end fixed was running $850+, I decided to put another remanufactured engine (this time from ATK engines) into it for $2000.
The engine came with a full gasket set, but it came with TWO sets of lower intake manifold gaskets. One is about .02 inches thicker than the other.
When I called Ford, they said the gasket should be about 3mm thick, which matches the thicker of the gaskets.
I'm skeptical of matching the gasket that I took off the engine since that came with the last rebuild and maybe I had the wrong gasket that time and maybe that's why I had leaks.
It would seem to me to be safe to go with the thicker gasket.
How can I tell which gasket to use?
