How much have you towed?
I tow my buddies boat in the summer. It's a 87' Chris Craft and I think it's a lil over 6k with boat and trailer combined. My truck handles it very well, you definitley know it's back there and I certainly wouldn't want to pull it up any big hills. It's mostly all flat around the Annapolis area where we launch from. The trailer is really nice and the brakes on it work awesome. I don't feel the boat at all when stopping. I have a Troyer tuned XCal2 so obviously I use my towing tune for this. I have upgraded to 4.56 LS which has really helped and I have an AF1 intake. I suppose this doesn't matter as much since I have an Automatic tranny.
Edit: oh and I run 33" BFG AT's. Plan on upgrading to 35's once the 33's wear out.. which I don't think is going to happen for a while.

yeah, I realized after I posted you were looking for manual reports... oops
My first F-150 was a 97 regular cab with the manual tranny\4.2 V6. That truck was fun to drive, I really miss the 5 spd sometimes.

don't try this at home
Most i have towed was my 20 foot float trailer is about 4500ish.. probly more ( its 2x6 and 2x8 thick wall with a 1/4inch steel deck on it and an 8 ton manual winch) plus a 4x4 ext cab s10 which was some where north of 3500 its self on top. It pulled it ... stopping it was interesting. the worse part was the suspension. I need a highlift jack to take it off the truck as the trailers toung weight was so much that the jack on the trailer was to tall to be used. I have since picked up a 1ton for that, as beefing the 150 to do it would have cost more than the 1ton did.

Have towed well over 6,000 lb during a 300 mile move hauling my friends loaded down jeep cherokee on one of those heavy as all hell U-Haul car trailers. Not sure exactly what the trailer weighed but the jeep alone is right at 5,000lb (empty). Bed of truck was also loaded down. Truck pulled great only had to drop to 3rd gear once and that was on pretty steep hill. Really didnt affect gas mileage much but my nerves are now shot being that i pulled this on bumper hitch not a reese SCARY!!

man my 4.2L has always been able to haul whatever i want to. ive hauld a 16' stock trailor loaded with heifers. a 20' flat trailor with 2 40x40 wrestlin mats on it. ive hauld 45 bags of feed in the bed (now that was fun =) ). i got helper springs that added a ton of haulin weight and a brake box to help stop my little truck. i got the 3.55 and bout to go to 4.30 gears when i get my lift and tires on. the only thing that i had a problem with was when i hauld my grandpas tractor home from the mountains its a old 70's model david brown and i got it movin just had a little trouble stopin it. but with the help of the civic in front of me we got it stoped =0
