Hey everyone. On our 99 F-150, the coolant tank was almost empty. Now we filled it and let it run for a bit until the temp came up. The level only went down a bit. Re-topped it off and then looked under the truck just to see if anything was damp; indicating a leak.
There was a SLIGHT amount of water around the bottom of the torque converter. there is a 'inspection plug' looking thing and it was in the damp area. Ideas?
We are watching the water level VERY close now but wanted to see if anyone had the same situation.

Sounds like a freeze plug has rusted out.

 

I haven't seen the same situation with my truck but pay close attention to the oil and what comes out of the oil filter next time you change your oil. I have seen what I believe were some leaky intake gaskets on a GM V6 and it was eating about a 1/2 gallon of coolant a month and I noticed sludge in the filter and when i pulled the PCV valve i noticed some coolant/oil residue on the bottom of the valve.

I was worried about the freeze plugs. I looked at the sides of the block and it seems OK. Is there one in back?
The truck has the automatic so it might a trans removal. Ugh. I might have to take it in do do this. $$$ I bet.
BTW, We just changed the plugs and wires. We used Motorcraft parts. The difference is amazing. No stuttering and runs so smooth. If I can just fix the drip...
