first real problem

Hi,
I own an 01 styleside with the 6 motor with only 33K on her. I have replaced the DPFE when it went bad, but something new has happened. I added that water remover and ran the tank down to 1/8 and I parked on a rather steep hill (facing up hill). The truck would not start. I added 10 gallons of gas, and after priming the air intake with a cup she started and ran perfectly. Fixed, I thought. Today parked on a smaller hill ( I do live in the hills where we have few flat spots) and it will not start again. Parked facing down this time.
I'm now thinking fuel filter, but am interested in some of your folks thoughts. Oh, no codes come up on the reader.
thanks

steve

If the fuel filter has never been changed, I would change it.

fuel filter

I will change out the filter, it's a pretty big can. I also checked the battery voltage before and during engine cranking. In the cab the voltage is 12.1 at rest, which is marginal, but it drops to 9v flat during full engine cranking. Might the electronics be unhappy with such a low voltage (understanding that there are real voltage losses across the cables at such a high current flow.
Trickle charged the battery last night, we'll see how it does this morning.

thx
steve

Good to hear. I have 128K miles on my '02 4.2L and I have only changed the filter at 60K(when i got it) and again at 100K. Not sure what increments we are supposed to replace them... but I have hear deof some people doing them every 20K miles.

Glad to hear it worked out in your favor.

I change my fuel filter every 10k miles. As I cracked one open one day just out of curiousity's sake, and it had a bunch of sediment in it.

I also highly recommend running a can of BG44k on a 1/2 tank of gas.

My Maintenance Schedule says every 15,000 miles.
