BTW, on our crappy California low emissions gas, I don't get anywhere near the mpg you get.
they had a 27 gallon tank on the long wheelbase trucks. i think now they have 25, 26, 27 and 33 for the options of tanks. my 04 heritage had a 27, and my 08 f150 shortbed i think is 26

my 04 heritage 4.2L V6 5spd manual reg cab longbed got 18.9 mpg when i got it, average with hills going 55-60mph. with K&N drop in filter i got 19.9 average(same driving routes) and with a K&N 77 series cold air intake i got about 22.5-23mpg average. if you are getting an auto i would say maybe 1mpg less for everything. with ext cab maybe take off another .5mpg.
also i never had the tailgate down while driving. they say it hurts mpg anyway
my bro has an 03 ext cab V6 auto and says he gets about 20 highway but his is bone stock so it gets what its supposed to.
