2003 V6 Heritage... Oil Leak?
2003 V6 Heritage... Oil Leak?
I am considering buying a 2003 F-150 Heritage with a V6. Over all the truck is in great shape with the exception of one thing. Before and after the test drive I crawled under to truck to look for any leaks. I noticed a little oil just behind what I think is the oil pan. I am going to try and explain what I saw.
Just behind what I think was the oil pan was another housing that appeared to be leaking oil. In the area of the leak, was a round possible plastic plug that would spin freely. I told the sales guy about it and he said it was leaking because it’s an indicator that the oil needs to be changed and that it was a seal that need to be replaced every time the oil is changed.
Any ideas about this plastic plug and if it could be the source of the leak/drip?

okay first off the heritage model was made in 2004, which ford was using the left over frames.
i doubt that an oil leak would indicate that the oil needed to be changed. but i have an 04heritage v6 and the way the oil filter is, it is very easy to slip some of the cross member when taking it off.
to me it wasnt clear on where excatley you where talking about where the oil was leaking from.

Hahahahahaaha....
Somehow I missed this thread...
Ya... man, it is probably a leaky pan gasket or something... I'd steer clear of the truck...

I'm thinking more like a leaky rear main seal. I'd take the truck to a trusted mechanic for an inspection and evaluation before buying it, if the dealer balks, walk away, they are hiding something.
Sorry I was out of town for the holidays and havnt had a chance to follow up with the thread. Thanks for the responces!
I did not purchase the truck. even though he lowed the price by 2k. This is after I walked out on his offer of 15k.
Anyone have a picture of the under side of a F150?
