Poping sound

ok this morning i started the 4.2L up to go to school and it was fine... walked back in the house... then came back out about 3 mins l8tr... and i heard this poping sound from the driver side of the engine... it would happen about an average of every 15 seconds... but i dint here it after i drove it about 5 miles...

last night we had an inch of rain... i dont know y but that might have something to do with what the poping sound was...

has anyone heard this before

any feedback is greatly appreciated...
Thank you,
Shan

I think it is ok...

Mine has done that since day one. My area of the country gets lots of rain especially in the spring.
Although I'm not certain the rain has anything to do with it.

I always thought it was the sound of the exhaust system cooling. Mine sounds like a metallic pop too that occurs about every 8-10 seconds at first but slows down and completly stops after the car has been off about 15 min.

Hope this helps...
My old truck always did this too and never gave me any trouble.
hope this helps

its just the engine cooling off, when it gets hot the metal engine actually expands a small amount from the heat, the popping is it cooling and shrinking back down, every car ive owned has done that even after short trips.

ive never heard of this.

the only popping ive ever heard is when the a/c drips condensation on to the exhaust and pops. and that usually happens on the passenger side.

the other popping is after its been revved up and the rpms are coming down and this popping noise comes out of the exhaust.

Like dirty said its just metal shrinking. Some do it more than others, but they all do it. Nothing to worry about.

was this while it was running? was the sound a high pitched pop, or more of a low "glud glug" (not sure how to describe it.do u have an open filter CAI?

i just modded my truck to have the filter exposed and while its idling you can hear a glug lug sound coming from the intake.

the only time i hear a poping sound like you describe is right after my truck has been turned off. ive askes my dad before, and hes told me that it was usually the exhaust manifolds or sometimes the pipes that are shrinking as they cool.

the only real "noise" i hear from my truck is what i have been told is the lifters, right after i start it up for about 5 minutes. those things are annoying!

Did you guys say....

A > poping < sound ? Would that be anything like a 'popping' sound ?

Hey anyway, as long as it doesn't start making a 'pooping' sound, I think you will be okay ;-) LOL

Peace,
Fish
