It wasn't set, now that's noticing something.

265 what? the first set of numbers is the width of the tire. The second set determines the tire height. you could have went to something like a 265/85r16 (exmple only) and went to a 33'' tire.
My F-150 "Sport" came stock with 275/60/17 tires and (H9) 3.55 LS. Once those wore out, I went with 285/70/17 tires and upgraded my gears to 4.56 LS. With that new configuration also tuned by my XCal2, courtesy of Troyer Performance, I average 15 mpg running my 87 Oct. performance tune... not too shabby.

Did they meet your needs?
Some people just have to have the 'fat' 'big' tire look.
I guess they figure it's a truck and their mileage is already in the crapper, might as well flush.

255-70/16 is a good replacement for 245-75/16. They are the same diameter and slightly wider, and easier to find. I bought a set of BFG Long Trail TA's at Sam's for 500 bucks out the door with the full service package.

Actually, the 245-75/16 will be closer in diameter to a 265/70/16 than they are to a 255/70/16.
From Tire Rack's page for the Michelin LTX AT2:
245/75/16 = 30.5" diameter
255/70/16 = 30.1" diameter
265/70/16 = 30.6" diameter
just an idea... my v6 4x4 with 3.55 gearing pushing 315 75r16's (35's) gets 10 city 12 highway.
If you guys are sumping down to 10mpg on normal tires id get your truck checked out. Maybe you need new gearing.
Im throttle happy and the lowest ive gotten is 8... and that was on an hour long rampage through some empty part of town.
