Depends where you buy it and who rebuilt it. Yes, I would expect a factory Ford reman from a dealer to be higher than 2 grand. If they want 4 grand for a reman, I'd also price out a new crate engine.

The Ford tech said that I will end up paying around $4500 when all is said and done. I don't mind that amount at all compared to the price of a new truck or even a decent used one!

Good choice.

Most people would just get rid of their truck and be faced with a huge debt... like stupid me did... all over a stupid $800 clutch. Don't even get me started with trading my '99.

All the money I'd have, not to mention the extra room... sheesh.

23,000 miles since mine died New motor feels great, still running it in.

My dad thought of buying a new F-150 when he had the option, but they guy at the dealership said its in such pristine condition that he should just get a new engine.

Damn, for $4,000 i could of had an engine and money left over for heads, P&P intakes, and a cam. Which cost about 3k from SSM.

But of course I wouldnt be paying someone to install it.

I just had my 2nd 4.2L Jasper put into my 97 F150 a month ago. $3800 installed with the installation kit which includes plugs, wires, filters, belt, etc. This is in the Missouri area. Not too sold on Jaspers any more because my first replacement only lasted 52K miles.

i went w a jasper as well. My only complaint is they do not use the updated intake gasket. now i am doing that this weekend since i am loosing coolant. But you could just buy a gasket from ford and have your installer put the ford gasket in when he is putting the engine together. JAsper warranty is way better at 3 yr and 100k while ford just 3 year 36k

I found out today that the lower drive pulley and harmonic balancer have been made into one piece on the new motor. Ford will void my warranty if I put my troyer underdrive pulley on. I just bought this thing only months ago. I plan on waiting my three years and as soon as the warranty is expired, back on the truck the pulley goes.
