changing spark plugs

Hey guys I have a 97' 4.2 and am getting ready to replace the spark plugs and wires. I have been reading a lot that ford has a problem with the spark plugs breaking off and causing a whole bunch of problems, it seems to be mostly in the V8's but I want to be able to avoid this problem anyway possible. So do I have to worry about this with my truck? It has 114,000 miles on it and sat over the summer so I don't know if that will have any effect. Also, any recomendations on what brand plugs and wires? Thanks alot for the help guys!

Not at all - the 4.2 has old style plugs in the side of the head. I'd use stock OEM Motorcraft platinum plugs and wires.

Unless you like your truck missing, bad gas mileage, and spending extra money on gimmick plugs, keep them! Or,your truck can run like it came from the factory,if you install Motorcraft plugs! Big decision, huh? :santa:

But I spent $7 per spark plug! The more I spend on something, doesnt that mean its a lot better than the cheaper ones? I know, just kidding, I know thats not true. I like the truck running like factory or better than factory.:o

Well unless you like having your truck idle rough and by rough I mean when you pull up to a stop light you can feel the whole truck shake cuz the engine sounds like its gonna stall. If you havent opened them and still have the receipt take em back and get either motorcraft or autolights.

Ummm actually, the spark plugs I have behind my seat are the same ones in the engine right now. And my engine does run real rough once in a while at a stand still. It did that today. But I thought it was because Banks 1 and 2 are running too lean due to a vacuum leak I was thinking, causing it to run rough.

So you have a total of 12 Bosch plugs that close to your F150 at the same time .. Mannn , if you remove the ones from behind your seat at least 50 feet away from your truck - It should run a little better..

Those plugs are like Kryptonite is to Superman..

Lol ok. How could those plugs be so bad though? I still have my receipt I think.
