cam sensor sychronizer
cam sensor sychronizer
Hi every one I need some help . I am putting together a reman 4.2 and I can't seem to get the synchronizer put right , I bought the tool but I guess I am doing something wrong? I line #1 tdc and stab the synchro but it runs rough and pops out the pipe do I HAVE IT 180 OUT? Thanks pappy3
I never considered it because the long block came with a 10 minute birth certificate! they listed oil pressure , oil tempaverage compression, water temp! I just may not be the exact spot on the crank or dialing in the cam synchro to that 54 degrees? any help would be grateful john
Have you had any luck with this issue? I just installed an overhauled 4.2 and auto transmission, and have the same issue. It runs, but oddly and pops when accellerating the engine. I moved the cam sensor from one motor to the other with both at TDC. It apparently is off, even after using the tool.
If you dont mind, let me know if you got yours fixed, and what did it.

found it
On my truck the issue was my own carelessness. #1 and #3 spark plug leads were reveresed. put them on the right posts on the coil, and the new engine purrs like a kitten.
It ran surprisingly well with them reversed, just a slight wiggle at Idle. I decided to check the plugs and noticed that pulling 1, or 3, did not change anything, but all the others did. Amazing.
The cam sensor can apparently function fine within about a 45 degree range from optimum, maybe more. This makes sense as it is just dumping fuel into the intake port, not into the cylinder.
Overhauling this engine, and replacing all of the intake gaskets, bolts, seals, etc. has seemingly fixed everything and all the codes.

Can this engine run without the synchro? I have a 1999 4.2l F150, owner had given up on it problems with engine so i bought it and totally rebuilt the engine (had 238000miles) and i installed a new synchro. the engine started and ran fine until it reached operating temp then it would just stall. It would start without hesitation and idle erratically then stall. Checked all vacuum lines and for leaks found none. Replace all sensors same thing. Then for some reason I disconnected the synchro and the engine runs fine with an occasional stall. So I am confused this engine should not even start without the synchro! By the way the new synchro came with the install tool. The engine runs with out the sensor and there is a "Service Engine Soon" light on. I suspect the computer is in "Limp Home Mode". Does anyone have any idea what is going on with my truck? Because I am stumped
