whats the problem

my 97 4.2L is acting up when ever i start it, it takes w while for it to get going. what i mean by this is it sounds like a chopper get started.also after ive been driving for a while and come to a complete stop my oil pressure needle fluctuates greatly.

Have you had to add coolant to it?Is the coolant low?
The oil sending unit might be bad;change it and see if that corrects it.If not,you've got bigger problems!

yea i have had to add coolant....how would i change the oil sending unit?

Hmmm... sounds like the infamous hydrolock issue with the 97 and 98 models... especially if it needs coolant.

I'd have it checked out by a qualified mechanic asap.

I bet your lower intake gaskets are bad and are about to fail and cause hydrolock! Or,your timing cover is leaking internally,which might be effecting the bearings and thats why your gauge is acting up.Get it checked ASAP!
BTW,if you look thru the drivers side wheel well you will see the oil sending unit on the engine.Use a sending unit socket or small channel lock pliers to replace it.
