EGR Valve

Well i had a trouble code a couple of months back saying insufficient EGR Valve. I finally got around to replace the damn thing. Check engine light was still on when i fired it back up. Does this take 3 driving cycles for the light to go out if this was the problem or can i just disconnect the battery and clear it that way??

The problem may not have been the EGR valve itself - but something related.

Are you sure it didn't say EGR insufficient flow detected, maybe code P0401. If so, thats not the EGR. Most likely the DPFE.

Im pretty sure it was insufficient EGR Valve (not sure of the code number) but i did disconnect the battery and hook it back up and light is now off. But does the code stay stored in the computer and still come up during emissions testing? Also should the light go right out if EGR was the problem? (im kinda new to the new OBDII)

EGR valves seldom fail. You likely wasted that money. Normally, P0401 code is caused by either a bad DPFE sensor, plugged throttle body EGR ports, or both.

Disconnecting battery for a period of several minutes erases all memory codes in the computer.

Do not go for an e-test shortly after resetting the computer. It will automatically fail because all the self-tests take several drive cycles to run.

The very best reference on Ford's OBDII system is available for free directly from them. http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...&menuIndex1=17

Is this sensor actually called EGR Valve Position Sensor or EGR Valve Pressure Feedback Sensor? There is a big difference in price thats why i was wondering, they both look about the same, I also found it at napaonline in case someone wants to take a look.

Don't waste your money on the aftermarket sensors.

Go to your Ford dealer and purchase the new, improved version. Costs around $100.

I just got a read of EGR insufficient flow detected also but I didn't see what code it was. So I'll clean it out and check for leaks.
Ok, help me DPFE? What's that? Where is it? I haven't even looked for the EGR valve yet actually....

I just noticed it says I'm a junior member? I signed up in summer of 2000 to research buying my 2001 4.6 in Oct. of 2000?????
I also just realized I posted this in the V6 forum. I just searched EGR and posted without looking
