Exclamation Having my differential rebuilt

Over the past few months my differential has been whining and getting louder every month.I've decided to have it rebuilt this next Monday.A local drivetrain company,Florida Powertrain,will be doing the job.It includes new Motive Performance gears,along with all the bearings and seals made by Timken.They will be using Amsoil 75W140 synthetic fluid.Cost,$850.00 plus tax! I'll post back after the job is complete. :santa:

i'd have 'em throw in a LS while you're getting all that done.

Yeah,they asked if I wanted to go that route;I decided not.I never pull or haul anything but groceries and a gang box,whenever I go to a different jobsite.My truck is totally stock so that eliminates racing!
BTW,the Ford dealership wanted $1200.00 to rebuild it!

350 difference in cost was the warranty through Ford any better?

Both offer 12 months/12k miles.
BTW,I made a mistake in the price in my original thread;it's $800.00 plus tax.With tax,$856.00.

you don't have to worry 'bout the white death there in florida, if you were up north here you'd have invested in the LS. this locker of mine has made the difference between good days and bad many a time.

Yep,you're correct! I've heard about the horror stories ya'll go thru in snow.And,you do need a L/S in the snow.I was stationed in Mo. during my basic training and it snowed like crazy there.If you didn't have a 4x4 or even a truck with L/S you were screwed!

Update;
Got my truck back.Turns out it was not as bad as expected.The ring and pinion gears were not bad.In fact they said they were in excellent condition.The pinion bearings were in very good shape too.But,the spider gears were shot along with the axle bearings and the u-joints.They installed new spider gears,pinion shaft,c-clips,axle bearings and seals,Spicer u-joints,and a new factory cover.Total cost,$457.12.The internal parts are Timken bearings and seals.The spider gears install kit is made by Motive.What a big difference.No more noise,no more slop in the drivetrain.
