Starting Problems
Starting Problems
I'm experiencing a recent starting problem with my '99 F150 4.2. Have to crank engine over sometimes up to 6 times to get started. First happened a few weeks ago with an almost empty tank. Did this cause the problem?
Tried a suggestion such as turning the key to on and off a few times. I hear a buzzing sound from under the hood for a few seconds, every time I turn the key to on position then it stops in a second or two. The engine then starts. The service engine soon light has not gone on. I replaced the fuel filter.
Appreciate any help.
Also can someone tell me where the fuel pressure relief valve is.

Look on the fuel rail going to the injectors and you will see a schrader valve (looks like a tire valve stem). You can relieve the pressure there.
The starting problem, that could be fuel related. The fuel pressure regulator could be bad,or the fuel pump,or an injector or injectors.Sounds like after the empty tank situation you might have gotten trash in the fuel line and it got past the fuel filter.

I don't have this problem, but sometimes (usually when it's less than 35 degrees out), It takes a few extra seconds to start. Is this normal (remember, I've never seen a temp of less than 15 degrees, and that was a freak weather incident)?
About a month before, I used STP complete, so I know it's not a filthy fuel system... I just don't want this trouble this winter.
Thanks

have you checked out the normal starting stuff...battery, plugs, wires, starter? that would be where i'd start. seeing your in canada i'd get on that stuff pronto 'cause cold doesn't help anything start any easier.
