chip, cold air, bigger fuel injectors, exhaust, hi flow cats, throttle body spacer. All these can be bought for the 4.2. Not sure about cams and such tho.

define what your goal is. How much HP are you trying to gain?
before you get really deep into this you must understand that while it is possible to wake up a 4.2
anything that you are going to really notice is going to be VERY EXPENSIVE.

what type of exhaust

there are not that many exhaust kits out there for the 4.2 Liter. I see that that is one of the answers: to get exhaust. Which manufacturer and what type; Single or Dual?

Just go done to your local exhaust shop and tell them you want flowmaster or magnaflow mufflers and they will put it on for you.

Gibson makes a very nice Catback and it sounds pretty darn good for a 6 banger. I think they are around 275 or 300 im not sure though.

I went and bought me a force automotive muffler, had my exhaust shop install it. no tailpipes, turn downs right at the outlet of muffler. $105 into it. sounds great. go to your muffler shop and have them tell you your options. goodluck.
