2003 4.2L AC - Can we unhook?

Hey all,

My Dad has a 2003 F150 with the 4.2L and while he was doing some routine maintenance today, he saw that on the diagram showing the pulleys (on the radiator cover) that it looked like an "alternate" setup was shown with a dotted line, that excludes the AC. Does anyone know more about this? He doesn't use AC and likes the idea of freeing up a couple extra horsepower if he can just reroute the belt...but we're not sure if the same belt will work or if any problems will be caused by doing this. Or if we need a different length belt to do it...etc.

I told him the experts here could help...any advice on this?

Thanks!

Thomas

Nobody? If I was somehow vague in my question please let me know, I did as much searching as I could on this subject last night (dial-up...ugh) but couldn't find the answer.

Thanks!

Probably need another belt at $50 a pop

The compresser is just freewheeling when the AC clucth is off. You wont gain enough HP to make a difference.
