I am going to be getting new tires for my truck. Just wondering if i get 35" tires and I regear to 4:56 gears will with strain my engine and tranny in any way? I figure it will not because putting the 4:56 gears in would bring it pretty close to stock. So i think. Will i also need to get my speedo adjusted as well? Also, i hear larger tires affect your braking also.. anyone know how bad?

 

4.56's should do awesome. Yes you will have to correct your speedo. A programmer from Superchips (no I'm not a salesman , I'm just giving a suggestion) or something similar will recalibrate your speedo with your tires, along with giving you more power to turn those big o' bruisers. A programmer will set you back about 400 bucks. But it's a good investment especially if you have bigger tires and a lift. Powerslot Rotors and Hawk Pads should stop you just fine.

 

I have a '99, 4.2L with 35" All Terrains, 4:56 gears and RCD 5" lift. Stock brake rotors and pads. This setup has been on for about 30,000 miles and no issues, except the speedo is off. In my case the speedometer reads faster than I am going by about 7 mph. So 70mph is acutally about 63 mph. This was my sons truck, he wanted to get a car so I bought the truck a couple of months ago. I am looking a getting an Excalibrator II if it will fix the speedometer and smooth out the transmission shifting. Hope this helps.
