well I went out and bought a new Idler pulley with the grooves to replace the bottom left idler pulley on the truck...i'm gonna try to put it on tonight if the rain stops. this noise is really pi$$ing me off cause it's a mix between a whine and a whistle. Today it was whistling more the whining. not sure what to do. my buddy mentioned vaccum lines..just like Peacemaker did...so i'm starting to think maybe that could be it too. someone in another board mentioned it could be the clutch fan or the throw out bearing.....I guess i'm gonna have to do what the dealership did and just start guessing and replacing....lol jk. if this pulley doesn't fix it, i'm gonna have to bring it to a garage and have them look over it.

The sound that you are describing is identical to a sound that I had recently. My tensioner pulley was frozen. After replacing it, the sound did not change. I eventually replaced the alternator. This was the problem. The alternator housing was cracked!! I suspect becaus of the extra load due to the frozen tensioner?

Ok, the tensioner has been changed as well. I didn't know that there was an arm that came off of the tensioner and that is what attached it to the engine. Neways....problem still isn't completely fixed. The sound is not nearly as loud now though so I guess that's a start. So far, I have replaced the alternator, two idler pullies and the tensioner pulley. Sound has quieted a bit...but still somewhat there. It's a dull whistle/whine. More of a whistle now. NOt sure what i'm gonna do.

Is your serpentine belt worn or glazed? Heck, it could be anything. Let's see, what's left? There's a power steering pump pulley, an AC pulley, and a crankshaft pulley. Try replacing the belt first since it's rather cheap compared to the other stuff. If that doesn't help, try using a stethoscope to see if you can pin-point where the sound is coming from and go from there. Sorry if I'm not much help.
