Well, you wouldn't want to go through any water higher than your air filter box. That would be bad. And usually people change the diff fluids after they have been submersed in water. I'd try to stay out of water higher than the door sills.

driving thru flood

thanks definitely will avoid it. but how do you actually drive thru it w/out the engine dying out on you. i used to drive a manual all i did was keep the rpm high and control the speed thru the clutch, how do you do it w/ an automatic tranny.by the way had an f150 for 5 yrs now and only been thru tire thick deep water(just wetting the wheels) but had a ford escort before the truck and we went thru some water. thanks again

Perfectly safe in standing water up to the hubs. Do you have 4x4? You can go deeper, but if any of the electricals get wet, your "dead in the water" so to say. Afterwords you need to get your axle lube changed to avoid damaging it. Also check on the auto tranny level to make sure no water is in there. But I would change it to be safe. The trick is to move steady using a bow wave in front of you to keep everything dry as possible. Have someone walk in front of you to make sure the path is clear.

I took a 98 250LD 4.6 5speed though very high water ( the waves were over my hood and on my side window). I had it in 4low and it wouldnt get past 2,000rpms, just chuged along till the water level got lower. Two funny things. one how didnt i suck air? I figured it was only about 15 ft that i traveled at that depth and there must have been air trapped under the hood, and maybe the oil on the old k&n helped repel some of the water spashing. The other funny thing was as i was driving through( it was an underpass ) i am looking out my side window and my waves uncover a car/ small truck roof about 1 foot from my truck. It was completlycovered with water and i almost plowed it..lol. Keep in mind my truck was not small as the 250 were about an inch higher than the 150's and i had 33's and my t-bars cranked up..lol. I didnt think it was as deep as it was till i was too far in..lol

water. would have been nice to have a picture of it. what caused the flood, where was this.
