P0340 Camshaft Sensor Malfunction

Hello there!

It's been almost three years now since my Check Engine Light came on for the first time, because of the dreaded front/intake gaskets... YES...1997 4.2 V6...
I replaced them on time, my engine didn't suffer that much...Thanks AJRagno!!

I got a code two days ago, P0340, some about Camshaft Sensor Malfunction...is this an expensive repair or can I replace the sensor myself? Will it cause any damage if not repaired within 2-3 days?

Thanks people!

Hi! I have a 2000 F-150 V-6. You will notice some idle ling problems and a huge increment in fuel consumption. My pick up has also turn on the check engine light with the same problem, cam shaft sensor malfunction. I had made some research and find out that it is a little easy to replace this sensor. I remove the sensor and find out that inside it has a little magnet that was lose I glued back with marine tex. I put it back in place and reset the codes and it is working ok. The most important part is, do not remove or loosen the bolt at the base where the sensor is installed because you need a special tool to calibrate it.
