95 300 inline 6
i have a 95 300 and ill tell u that that is one solid motor
its not gonna get u anywhere in a hurry, but i have 175k on mine and the motor never flinches
now the 5 speed i dunno... we had the clutch and pressure plate replaced 80k miles ago and its been a PITA to shift ever since. couldve just been a ***ty job. if om not mistaken its the same tranny as in the newer trucks. my 2001 has the 5 speed as well, and although it doesnt shift like a car, its been a strong tranny so far. my 2001 has 93k miles on it now.

I've had three trucks with this engine. one of the best engines ford ever built. I've seen one go 50,000 miles AFTER the rods started knocking, and it's probably still going. Last I saw it, it was so rusted that there were huge holes through the floor pan and box sides. About equal to a 302 for torque/pulling power.
as you may know, the engine has split manifolds, so it's rather easy to put dual exhaust on it.
It sounds, well, "different", very different than a V8. I don't think the stock exhaust is really holding this engine back much, chances are that you would lose as much or more on the bottom as you gain on top.
I'm not much of a fan of straight pipes anyway, they are inconsiderate to others. I'm soooooo tired or all the rednecks going by in their straight piped hee haw mobiles...
you asked for an opinion, well...there it is, hope I don't offend anyone
