Talking Po401 Egr

Hi people,
How's the weather? It was a beatiful day here in Visalia.I v'e been showing a service engine soon light for about two to three months on my 2001 v6 reg cab sport f150w/113,000 miles. A smog guy hooked up to the PCM and got back PO401 . The Hanes book described the number as " EGR insuffcient flow detected. Has anyone had a PO401 and what did you do to remedy the situation. Trucks been a little slower n its giddy up studering at times. Once awhile it takes two turns of the key to get her going. I just drove from San Jose to Visalia CA. thats about 180 miles . The gas mileage seemed to be normal . I am thinking about doing all the EGR system tests the manual refers to but after reading them three to four times I'm still somewhat confused with some of the lingo used. The illastrations suck like most manuals do. Perhaps someone knows the best way to cure the s.e.s light/EGR slow flow code.I like to stay away from the dealer if Icould.
Thanks TheHighwayMenace

P0401 is a very commonly discussed code.

Consult prior posts by using ""P0401" as your SEARCH keyword.
