Problems with the truck
Problems with the truck
Sigh.. alright as stated in one of my post. I was driving around and all of a sudden everything starting going dim in the truck. Then i lost all lights inside and out as well as the gauges. . after about another 30 secs the truck died out. I thought it was the alternator but i took it to autozone and it tested fine. I went ahead and bought a new one and installed. Still did the same thing. All the wires going from the alternator to the batt all test good with 12v light test.
anyone have any idea what it could be??

See if your particular application has a fuseable link. I have seen this on occasion with your same fault discription. Link may not be burned or broken completely therefore it would still allow your small test light to illuminate, but will not carry enough ampereage to operate the vehicle. Hope you figure it out.
and now.. seeee.. this is the best part of my damn day..
The parts store won't return the new anternator since it was already installed....
Now i have to wait until tomorrow morning. .. o.. i'm so happy now.. this is fun..

The regulator is built into the alternator.Have you checked your starter connections? These are known to corrode and just fall off, leaving you without any power.Check them very closely, including going to and from the starter.Good luck and keep us posted!
Truck starts fine and runs fine for awhile.
I just dies out after about 10 mins or so..
Now i'm dealing with the parts store to return this alternator.. Idiots that won't do their job.

O this just keeps getting better and better.
The alternator tested good at autozone. So i went home.. then went to oreillys.
Trip1: oreillys: bought alternator. Noone informed me that you can't return after installed. Also bought belt that was too small.
Trip2: try and return alternator and belt. Informed that i can't due to it was installed. Asked to speak with manager. "he's gone for the day" says Dan. Said i need to return tomorrow and speak with manager. but i understand.
Trip3: Dan didn't tell the manager that i was going to be here so the manager went ahead and took the check to the bank. Now i have a alternator and a belt.. $201.56 check going to the bank and stilla a broken truck. Manager said that there's nothign he can do until the check clears.. 201.56 was with core charge.
Home: called corp office to put in a complaint.. Phone picks up. "this is Jeff" Like i just called someones house. "jeff who" i said. "Jeff with Oreillys" he said.
Gave him the story.. and they he said.. and i quote
" we don't inform our customers that you can't return once the parts are installed nor do we print it on the invoice or post it in the store". "our customers know we only sell new parts and if they don't work then you can exchange them" "But this was remanufactured" I said... no reply from customer service. "Jeff, i'm posting stop payment on the check" i said.
"well if you do, i advise you to return the alternator"......
"THATS WHAT I'M TRYING TO DOOOOOOO!!!!!!"
Hang up.
The whole company is full of idiots.. they needs to take acouple CS classes.

There is something electrical shorting out.I'm thinking your coil might be overheating and shutting down.Or,the cam position sensor,or the crank sensor. This is a bit out of my league. You might want to find a good reputable auto electrician you can trust. But,as you might know, chasing electrical problems can take time, and time is money! I wish you the best of luck!

Nope, they said it might of been from an overcharge on the alternator but when they tested the alternator again... it was running normal..
I'm happy that it didn't cost me too much.

Sigh, checked coolant level again today.. it's dropped a bit.. DAMNIT i need a break and need some funds.. Come on tax return. Should i keep driving it until i get cash. I mean if it sits without running won't it fill with coolant and if it's started will cause major harm????
Yep,you are asking for trouble now! At any given time, you can shut off the engine, then, upon starting it again,"BOOM",hydro-lock!
You say you dont have the money to fix the gaskets rite now, but, will you have $3500.00 plus, for a new engine?
