how to get better gas milage???
I have an 02 F-150 Supercab 4.2 auto. It has an Airaid Intake, Superchip, and a Flowmaster Exhaust. Its probably pushing as much HP as a 4.6 stock, but my friends with 5.4's still get better millage than I do. I have 3.55 LS, and I do tow a lot, but even not towing I get about 13mpg and it doesnt matter if its city or freeway, and I dont have a heavy foot. Then again it might just be the truck since I'm on my 4th pair of leaf springs with only 30k miles on it. I'm getting another 150 probably, and it will definately be a 5.4 without a doubt, for the extra 600 bucks or 1000 bucks, its definately worth it for power, gas and resale. Dont get me wrong the v-6 has been a good motor, but not if your planning to tow a lot or do anything besides commuting.
I just got back from austin tx i drove from houston to austin and back all within about 17 hours , went for a halloween party and i got about 20 mpg but i also drove 55-65 miles per hour my rpms were at about 1600 basically a non stop drive.

My gas millage got better with the chip. Before the chip, I was getting around 12mpg when the truck was new up to 20k miles, now I'm getting 13-14. I've only had the chip for 10k miles or so now, so the truck had plenty of time to break in.

I disagree about the V6 not being enough engine. I have the V6 and it has done everything I've asked it to do. No it's not fast in V8 terms, no it can't pull what a 7.3 diesel pulls. But it will absolutely pull the 4200lbs that the manual says it will. It will get 17 mpg in town and 23 on the highway. That's what the sticker said on the driver's side window and that's what it does.

The V6 is plenty! You can also get a flowmaster muffler with a bigger pipe. (3" or so) that helps on the freeway. Also, invest in the K&N air Filter system. Thats gonna get you great gas milage.
just remember to stay away from dancing bananas.
I have taken it in and they say its fine, and not running rich. I have a flowmaster 50 series delta flow si/so, superchip, as well as the airaid full intake. I'm sure its putting out close to the stock HP of a 4.6, and dont get me wrong its a good truck, but for the price and the millage difference, the v-8 is just a better choice for me.
i have 02 F150 S/C with flow master 50 sei and a K&N filter i am thinking of getting the supper tunner ? How many mil does everyone else get to the tank ? and getting the airaid full intake worth the $$$$ or go with the poor man's setup
If you already have the K&N it will cost you nothing to modify your air box and try the poorman setup. I have the 9100 programmer and love it but can't claim any real mileage gains with it, might be trying to use the 20+ hp it dumps in the truck. Electric fans did give me a small gain in mpg .5-1 best I can tell but I live in the sticks 25+ miles from town so my mileage is alot closer to highway than city. I can go over 450 miles before the fuel light comes on and average around 21 mpg.
Considering how poor my milage has been (never seen better than 15mpg), how underpowered the truck is (towed a small trailor with a lamn mower and couch and it struggled), and how the blasted thing just grenaded in my driveway last Friday.
I'd stay away from FORD, and certainly stay away from their V6's.
I never did better than 15mpg, averaged about 13.5. My friend has the 5.4 liter in his and got 17mpg and could pull soemthing with weight.
I guess after I get it back with the new 4.2L POS in it, I'll see if it gets better milage. Sadly at only 90,000 my last truck should have only just been broke in........ NOT BROKE
