OK if I have tried to put a bunch of engines in my 02 f150 4.2l. First I thought of a 94 h.o. 5.0. A mechanic really looked it over and he said that the 302 wouldn't fit properly cause of the firewall in our engine bay. The intake is too tall far back toward the back of engine bay. If you wanted to do this you would have to have a custom fab. cut some pieces out to make it fit right, and the tranny bolt pattern is a windsor pattern in these motors(just in case u decide you want to hook it up). I would go w/the 4.6. Everything fits. The 4.6 has the same engine bay as us. If you have a standard tranny the 4.2 and 4.6 are the same(not sure about auto). If you do get the 4.6 be sure it is a pre-99 model(in 99 they changed all the computer stuff @$$ backwards) If your looking for performance, then get a cheap 4.6 that someone has taken out on this board or other f150 boards, and talk to CRASH to get a cheap turbo kit or s/c kit. I love the 302, but there is going to be way more involved when doing this swap. Whichever you decide keep us posted

P.S. If you have around $6,000 you can do the L swap. This is real tuff , but will be well worth it. I was about to purchase the motor and everything I needed, when my college bill came in and I have to spend more on that than I had first planned. I am now going to put a turbo on my 4.2l which is a little cheaper and should put out 325rwhp. CRASH also has these kits. If you need any more info email me at mpetershome@valuelinx.net(I still have the parts list for this swap)
Just my 2 cents.
