Is our truck capable of pulling a trailer
ScaryKerrie,
If you look at the towing and hauling board, you will find a trailer weight chart.
The 4.2 V6 with a manual is listed as pulling a max weight of 3600#. If the rear-end is higher geared, that max # goes way down.
You need to account for extra weight in your trailer. Water adds about 8# per gallon. A 50 gallon water tank will add 400# total. Now add clothes, cooking utensils, toys, tools, etc. Your trailer will likely end up close to 5000#.
This is probably too much for a V6. However, you may want to consult both your trailer and your Ford dealers to see if they can give you any insights.
Good luck.
